Core Values
Redeemer Church is a collection of diverse individuals who all have slightly different methods with regard to how we go about serving Christ. Yet certain common values unify our efforts and define our distinctiveness.
Jesus Christ is Lord. He is the center of our life, the object of our faith, and His Spirit lives in us. To obey Jesus is to seek God's will for our individual and collective lives through the spiritual disciplines of worship, daily prayer, Bible study, tithing and serving. The membership vows in the United Methodist Church include a pledge to uphold the church with prayers, presence, gifts and service.
The Bible is God's Word. It is our authority and guide, the standard for faith, the final test of authenticity. The church exists as the body of Christ; its purpose is to "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded." (Matthew 28:19)
Worship is a celebration of our faith. It is experiential, and the music, liturgy, and preaching should reflect a style that speaks to various needs and generations. Membership is a covenant. It costs something to be a follower of Jesus Christ. The church should operate as a unified community of servants who are good stewards of their gifts. We encourage each other to be active participants, not spectators.
Every believer is called to ministry. Each individual is graced with spiritual gifts given by God to be used in ministry. The local church helps people to discover their spiritual gifts and prepare them for God's work. Full devotion to Christ and His cause is normal for every believer.
All people matter to God. Jesus came to seek and to save the lost. We feel compelled to do the same. We have a deep concern for all people ~ the churched and the unchurched. Outreach and mission are priorities.
Leadership development is a necessity. The church should be led by men and women with leadership gifts. Leaders are driven by God's vision and voice. A leader works by faith, not by sight. Leaders "lead" in their participation, stewardship and support of each other.
Family-based ministry is a priority. We are community-oriented, and family-focused. Worship, education and all ministries demonstrate our commitment to the wholeness of the individual, the family unit and to the church family.
Small groups are where a relationship with Jesus Christ and with one another is often begun and strengthened. They encourage accountability, discipleship, and fellowship among believers. Growth occurs best in small groups and participation is encouraged and expected of Redeemer members.
Excellence is strived for in all things. Excellence honors God and inspires people.
