Kingdom Quest Rooms

Since one of the common ways in which children learn is visually, we wanted our workshop rooms to be colorful and inviting. God blessed us with a graphics artist and dedicated painters in our congregation who worked hard to make our rooms ‘come alive.’ Our artist created floor-to-ceiling designs; many of which were simple fill-in-the-spaces, like a huge paint-by-number drawing. Shading was added to some areas to provide depth and interest, and everything was outlined in black marker. (Yes, it can be tough to paint-over, but its ‘eye-popping effect’ is worth it!)

Note: we intentionally use a minimum of furniture and decorative items since we use the rooms in a variety of ways each month. We want to keep as much open floor space as possible.

Gospel Games/Bible Connection - This room is primarily used for our Bible skills and games workshops. To help the children learn the names of the Bible books, they’ve been painted in the gray blocks around the room. Tables and chairs are set up as necessary for playing games like Jeopardy; otherwise space is left open for floor games and special activities like our archaeological dig during our Moses rotations.

JesusSaves.com - This is our computer lab, which currently has 12 computers. Although a computer lab can be expensive to set up and maintain, it’s been a big selling point to new families and there are great programs through Sunday Software that tie in nicely with our rotations.

Kingdom Theatre/Temple Tales - This room is used for both drama and storytelling using many methods. Movable cabinets store children and adult-size costumes and a variety of props. Still to be decided is whether or not we will add a tent-like structure or a stage.

Reel to Real - We use our multipurpose room for our movie workshop since it’s often a large-group activity scheduled at the beginning of a rotation to help introduce the story. The children enjoy popcorn while they sit and watch the movie on the ‘big screen.’

Taste of Heaven - As part of our new Children’s Ministry wing, we have our own kitchen! Lowered tables and stools are used to facilitate ‘kid-friendly’ cooking, and a double-oven was a key purchase since many of our recipes call for baking in quantities.

Thou Art - This room is used for art and other activities, since we use the multipurpose room for large-group art projects as well. Cabinets are being built along one wall and tables, chairs, and floor coverings are used as needed for messy projects.
